Every saree is one of a kind — sold once, never recreated

About Priya Rao

Priya Rao

Founder and curator, SARRVAMANGALI SILK

Priya grew up in Andhra Pradesh, surrounded by silk weaving traditions. The colours of temple festivals and the weight of a grandmother’s Kanjivaram stayed with her.

As the wife of an Indian Army officer and a mother of two, she has made homes in many parts of India. In each one she sought out the local weavers, and slowly built the relationships that the studio rests on today.

“A saree is not an outfit. It is a memory you get to wear.”

Her approach to curation

How Priya chooses

One, not many

She chooses single pieces, never a run of the same design.

The hand behind it

Workmanship first: even weave, true zari, a clean finish.

Made to be worn

Sarees that drape well, age well and become heirlooms.
